The one meeting…
by Hugo Tharinger
In 2014 I joined Gilead. Adam and I both reported to the same manager. I can still clearly remember our first team meeting. Adam and Indrani had to gave an update on their work and I was highly impressed by the scientific knowledge and quality of Adam's work. As soon as I exited the meeting room, as a fresh employee I started to worry. “Is that what Gilead expecting from me? How am I going to be able to keep up with such a high scientific level?". I then set up my goal: “Like Adam if I could be Like Adam” (90's Michael Jordan add).
Fortunately for me it turned out that Adam was not an average scientist he was “la crème de la crème,” which did ease my worries a little bit.
It only took a one hour meeting with Adam to impact me as a scientist and it still shapes my work today. That is what talented and good people can do without even noticing.
I am thankful I had the chance to work closely with Adam and also pick his brain for the best restaurant suggestions and travel tips.
Repose en paix Adam,
